Mountz Hand Tool PFAS-Free Grease Reference
Why Mountz is Transitioning
Mountz is transitioning hand tool products to approved PFAS-free grease in response to evolving European chemical regulations, including the proposed European Union restriction on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) under the REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) Regulation.
This proactive transition supports customer compliance initiatives, aligns with emerging regulatory requirements, and reinforces Mountz's commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable products while reducing the use of PFAS where technically feasible.
Important Note
This initiative focuses on transitioning the lubricants used in Mountz hand tool products to approved PFAS-free grease. While this eliminates PFAS from the lubricant, some products may still contain PFAS in other mechanical components. Mountz is actively evaluating these materials and will continue identifying opportunities to reduce or eliminate PFAS where technically feasible.
Any known PFAS-containing mechanical components are identified in the table below.
The PFAS-free designation currently applies only to the approved lubricant used in the tool and should not be interpreted to mean the entire product is PFAS-free.
Validation & Qualification
Before approving PFAS-free grease for production, each product family completed engineering validation to confirm there was no degradation in performance or service life.
Testing included:
- Torque accuracy and repeatability verification
- Life cycle / endurance testing
- Mechanical function and feel evaluation
Service & Maintenance
Products listed as PFAS-Free Qualified can be serviced using the approved PFAS-free grease.
When servicing a tool, the previous lubricant should be completely removed before applying the approved replacement grease. Always follow the latest Mountz service instructions and lubrication specifications for the applicable product.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Mountz transitioning to PFAS-free grease?
Mountz is transitioning qualified hand tool products to approved PFAS-free lubricants in response to evolving global regulatory requirements and customer demand for more sustainable manufacturing practices. This transition maintains the same torque accuracy, reliability, and performance expected from Mountz products while reducing the use of PFAS where technically feasible.
Will PFAS-free grease affect tool performance?
No. Qualified products underwent engineering validation to confirm that the approved PFAS-free lubricant maintains the same torque accuracy, repeatability, reliability, and service life as the previous lubricant.
Does PFAS-free mean the entire tool is PFAS-free?
No. The PFAS-free designation applies only to the approved lubricant used in qualified products. Some tools may still contain PFAS in engineered components, such as PTFE seals or ferrules. Refer to the Product PFAS Status table for details.
Can existing tools be serviced with the PFAS-free grease?
Yes. Products that have been qualified for the transition can be serviced using the approved PFAS-free lubricant. During service, the previous lubricant should be completely removed before applying the replacement grease. Always follow the latest Mountz service instructions and lubrication recommendations for the applicable product.
How can I identify whether my tool uses PFAS-free grease?
Refer to the Product PFAS Status table in this article. The table identifies which product families have transitioned to PFAS-free lubricant, which are pending qualification, and which currently use other lubricants. If you need assistance identifying a specific tool or have questions about compatibility, contact Mountz Applications Engineering or Customer Support.
