Torque Adjustment

The IPT does not have an external torque scale. The required torque value is set through the wrench's internal adjustment mechanism and verified using a torque analyzer.

The adjustment method depends on the IPT model.

IPT 18 through IPT 250

The IPT Torque Adjusting Set Key, Item #280049, is required to adjust the internal torque setting on:

  • IPT 18
  • IPT 36
  • IPT 73
  • IPT 110
  • IPT 150
  • IPT 250

The adjusting key is sold separately.

IPT 369 and IPT 885

The larger IPT models use a different adjustment method. The following tools are required to adjust the internal torque setting:

  • 3 mm Allen key
  • Extension bar
  • Ratchet wrench or handle

Setting & Verifying Torque

Because there is no external adjustment scale, a torque analyzer is required to establish and verify the IPT's preset torque value.

General process:

  1. Determine the required torque value.
  2. Select a torque analyzer or sensor that covers the required range.
  3. Use the appropriate adjustment method for the IPT model.
  4. Make an initial adjustment to the internal torque setting.
  5. Apply torque smoothly to the analyzer until the wrench clicks.
  6. Review the measured torque value.
  7. Adjust the wrench as necessary.
  8. Repeat the test until the desired torque setting is achieved.
  9. Verify the final setting before placing the wrench into production.

Once properly preset, operators can use the IPT without needing to select a torque value during normal fastening.

Choose the IPT when the same torque setting will be used repeatedly and restricting operator adjustment is beneficial.

Choose the EPT when operators need to change torque values for different fastening requirements.


Calibration & Accuracy

The IPT should be periodically calibrated and verified as part of the facility's torque control program.

The preferred and certified ranges of the IPT-Series are in accordance with the requirements of ISO 6789 at ±4% of the indicated setting.

Because the IPT is preset internally, torque should also be verified after changing its setting and before returning the wrench to production.
