This preset service includes an ISO/IEC 17025 calibration certificate and carries an additional fee. - The wrench’s accuracy is ±6% of its set torque value. - The torque setting can be adjusted by the customer or a calibration center. Opening the tool to adjust it invalidates any existing ISO/IEC 17025 calibration certificate. - Use a torque analyzer to verify that the wrench delivers torque within its accuracy limits and determine if recalibration is needed. ### **Setting the torque specification** 1. **Specify a preset torque when ordering.** 2. Provide the desired torque value and units of measure. Our calibration lab will set the wrench before delivery. This service includes an ISO/IEC 17025 calibration certificate and carries an additional fee. 3. **Allow additional time for presetting.** 4. Presetting typically adds a few days to the order’s lead time, depending on the lab’s workload. 5. **Consider ordering without a preset if timing is critical.** 6. This option may allow the wrench to ship sooner. Customers can independently arrange torque setting and calibration through an external calibration provider. The wrench will ship with a Declaration of Conformance (DoC) only, with no calibration certificate. ### **Adjusting the torque specification** 1. **Understand how adjustments affect the calibration certificate.** 2. If the wrench was supplied with an ISO/IEC 17025 calibration certificate, opening the tool and breaking its seal to change the torque setting invalidates that certificate. 3. **Adjust the torque setting and verify the output.** 4. Remove the end cap and use a hex key to turn the internal adjustment screw, compressing or decompressing the spring to increase or decrease the torque setting. A torque analyzer is required to measure the torque delivered and confirm that the wrench meets the desired setting within its accuracy limits. 5. **Choose an adjustment option based on your requirements.** 6. If an ISO/IEC 17025 calibration certificate is not required, adjustments can be made in-house or by a non-accredited calibration provider. 7. If a certificate is required, choose the manufacturer’s accredited lab or an appropriately accredited calibration center. After adjustment, the accredited lab must recalibrate the wrench and issue a new ISO/IEC 17025 calibration certificate. ### **Verification and recalibration** 1. **Accuracy tolerance.** 2. The wrench should deliver torque within ±6% of its set torque value. 3. **Check accuracy and follow the recommended calibration interval.** - **TB, TBIH, and MMTB:** Every 10,000 cycles. - **TBX:** Every 20,000 cycles. 4. Recalibrate the wrench if its measured torque falls outside the ±6% tolerance. 5. Mountz’s recommended intervals are: 6. ISO 6789 provides a default recalibration interval of 5,000 cycles or 12 months, whichever comes first, when no calibration interval has been established. Estimate a suitable schedule based on tool use and your quality requirements. 7. **Use a torque analyzer to verify performance.** 8. A torque analyzer measures the torque delivered by the wrench. Compare the measured output with the set torque value to confirm whether the wrench remains within the ±6% tolerance or needs recalibration. ### **How break-over wrenches work** - Clear feedback when torque is reached. The wrench “breaks” at a fixed angle—30° or 90°, depending on the model—providing strong visual and tactile feedback. Once the internal cam deflects, the set torque has been delivered. - Stop pulling when the wrench breaks. Continuing to pull can apply additional torque and overtighten the fastener. The compact design and wide selection of interchangeable heads offer flexibility for applications with limited access. - Recalibrate when changing head length or style. These wrenches are length-dependent, meaning the head’s effective length affects the torque delivered.
