Calibration Hangers and Weights – FAQ & User Guide
Mountz Calibration Hangers and Weights are used with Calibration Segment Arms and Calibration Wheels to create known torque loads for calibrating torque analyzers and torque sensors. Stainless steel hook and slotted weights are available in multiple sizes to build the required calibration load.
Quick Answer
Mountz Calibration Hangers and Weights are components of a dead weight calibration setup for torque analyzers and torque sensors. A hanger is suspended from a Calibration Segment Arm or Calibration Wheel, and calibrated weights are added to create the required load. The total applied weight includes both the hanger and the weights.
What Are Calibration Hangers and Weights Used For?
Calibration Hangers and Weights are used with a Calibration Segment Arm or Calibration Wheel to create a known torque load for calibrating torque analyzers and torque sensors.
Mountz identifies three components of a dead weight test set:
- Segment Arm or Calibration Wheel
- Hanger
- Weights
Mountz identifies calibrated dead weights as a means by which torque analyzers and torque sensors are calibrated and traced to National or International Standards such as NIST and ISO.
How Do Hangers and Weights Work?
The hanger is suspended from the Segment Arm or Calibration Wheel, and the required weights are placed on the hanger.
The amount of total weight needed depends on the torque range of the analyzer or sensor being calibrated and the length of the Segment Arm or radius of the Calibration Wheel.
Important: The total applied weight includes both the hanger and the stainless steel weights.
Available Calibration Weights
Mountz offers stainless steel hook and slotted weights in a range of sizes.

| Stainless Steel Slotted (Class F) | 110047 | 0.5 lbs. |
| Stainless Steel Slotted (Class F) | 110046 | 1 lb. |
| Stainless Steel Slotted (Class F) | 110045 | 2 lbs. |
| Stainless Steel Slotted (Class F) | 110041 | 5 lbs. |
| Stainless Steel Slotted (Class F) | 110042 | 10 lbs. |
| Stainless Steel Slotted (Class F) | 110070 | 20 lbs. |
| Stainless Steel Slotted (Class F) | 110071 | 50 lbs. |
These item numbers and weights match the Mountz calibration equipment documentation you provided.
Available Calibration Hangers
| Type | Item # | Weight | Stem Length |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stainless Steel Hanger Weight (Class F) | 110044 | 2 lbs. | 9 1/4" |
| Stainless Steel Hanger Weight (Class F) | 110043 | 5 lbs. | 16" |
The hanger itself contributes to the total calibration load and must be included when determining the total applied weight.
Selecting Hangers and Weights
Select the appropriate hanger and weights based on:
- Torque range of the analyzer or sensor
- Segment Arm length or Calibration Wheel radius
- Required calibration load
- Capacity of the selected Segment Arm or Calibration Wheel
The total load must account for the weight of the hanger plus the added calibration weights.
Basic Calibration Setup
- Securely mount the torque analyzer or torque sensor.
- Select the appropriate Calibration Segment Arm or Calibration Wheel.
- Attach the Segment Arm or Wheel to the analyzer or sensor.
- Select and attach the appropriate hanger.
- Add the required calibrated weights to the hanger.
- Apply the known torque load.
- Repeat the process at the required calibration points.
Follow the calibration procedure appropriate for the specific analyzer or sensor being calibrated.
Compatible Calibration Equipment
Calibration Segment Arms
Segment Arms are available in different lengths, input drives, and weight capacities for calibrating torque analyzers and sensors.
Calibration Wheels
Calibration Wheels are designed for calibrating small torque analyzers and sensors and are available in different radii and weight capacities.
