--- title: Mountz Torque White Paper - Click Vs. Cam Over Technology description: Our white paper delves into the nuanced intricacies surrounding the click-wrench mechanism's susceptibility to torque failures, juxtaposed with the protective capabilities of the cam-over-wrench mechanism in averting fastening failures and over-torque occurrences. --- - Chat - [Contact Us](https://go.mountztorque.com/contact-us?_gl=1*1t1uhd0*_gcl_au*MjMwOTIyMTI2LjE2ODU1OTU4Mjc.&_ga=2.126080644.843342068.1685595827-2758410.1685595827) - [Sign in](https://www.mountztorque.com/secure/checkout.ssp?is=login&login=T&fragment=login-register) - [![MO18001_Logo_H_Color_Tag_RGB](https://mountztorque.com/hubfs/MO18001_Logo_H_Color_Tag_RGB.svg "MO18001_Logo_H_Color_Tag_RGB")](https://www.mountztorque.com/?hsLang=en) - North America:[(408) 850-9978](tel:4088509978) - International:[+44 1428 741756](tel:441428741756) - [Shop Products](https://www.mountztorque.com/Product-Type) - [Learning Center](https://www.mountztorque.com/Learning-Center) - [About Us](https://www.mountztorque.com/about-us) - [Service and Calibration](https://go.mountztorque.com/usa-service?_gl=1*1itcg2n*_gcl_au*MjMwOTIyMTI2LjE2ODU1OTU4Mjc.&_ga=2.172874026.843342068.1685595827-2758410.1685595827) [![Mountz_Assets_ConversionCalculator_white](https://mountztorque.com/hubfs/Mountz_Assets_ConversionCalculator_white.svg) Conversion Calculator](https://www.mountztorque.com/torque-conversion-calculator?hsLang=en) [![Mountz_Assets_TorqueToolFinder_white](https://mountztorque.com/hubfs/Mountz_Assets_TorqueToolFinder_white.svg) Torque Tool Finder](https://www.mountztorque.com/torque-conversion-calculator?hsLang=en) ![ChatGPT Image Apr 15, 2026, 10_10_14 AM (1)](https://mountztorque.com/hs-fs/hubfs/ChatGPT%20Image%20Apr%2015%2c%202026%2c%2010_10_14%20AM%20(1).png?width=1536&height=1024&name=ChatGPT%20Image%20Apr%2015%2c%202026%2c%2010_10_14%20AM%20(1).png) ### Selecting a Precision Torque Wrench Click vs. Cam-Over Technology ## White Paper Torque control is critical to assembly quality, yet not all torque wrench mechanisms provide the same level of protection against fastening errors. This white paper compares click-type and cam-over torque wrench technologies, highlighting the risk of over-torque and missed targets with click wrenches versus the built-in safeguard of cam-over designs that prevent additional torque once the preset value is reached. It also explains how cam-over mechanisms, like those used in Mountz FGC wrenches, improve consistency, reduce operator error, and protect joint integrity in high-precision applications.
